A stunning art print of Bideford Town, also known to locals as ‘The Little White Town’, a phrase used by Charles Kingsley in his book ‘Westward Ho!’, to describe the town.

The town was first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086. The town became an important port in the 13th Century going on to be the third largest port by the 16th Century. The two sides of the water were connected by the long bridge shown in the print, which was built in 1474. Each arch of the bridge is a different size and gives the bridge its own uniqueness.

I tried to capture a little something of everything when I created this painting, the infamous long bridge, the buildings, the Quay and not forgetting a glimpse of the Oldenburg, the passenger ferry which serves Lundy Island.
